Lara Mitofsky Neuss is a clarinetist, educator, and administrator currently based in Tallahassee, Florida. A strong new music advocate, Lara is an active performer and commissioner of today's composers. Recent performances include appearances at the National Student Electronic Music Event (NSEME), Americans for the Arts, SPLICE Electroacoustic Festival, and the American Single Reed Summit. She is the bass clarinetist of the Civitasolis Reed Quintet who will make their Carnegie Hall debut in 2019 as the winner of the Florida State University NolesinNYC Competition. Also an improviser, she recently completed an educational and performance tour in Sweden with the Orford Improvisation Ensemble.

Lara has performed as a member of a variety of ensembles and festivals including Brevard Music Festival, Bang on a Can Music Festival, Cortona Sessions for New Music, New York Youth Symphony, and Banff Center for the Arts. A performer equally of the classical repertoire, she was the winner of the Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition and a semi-finalist in the William C. Byrd International Competition. Lara is currently a doctoral teaching assistant at Florida State University and holds degrees from Colorado State University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She additionally studied at Peabody Conservatory of Music and Mannes College of Music Pre-College Division. Outside of music, Lara enjoys studying Mindfulness and is certified in Reiki.
